5 Lessons from Nelson Mandela!!!

After the recent passing of Nelson Mandela on December 5, 2013, known affectionately by his Xhosa tribal name, ‘Madiba’ or Father, I began to realize just how IMPACTFUL a life can be in the world. His desire to walk through fear and frustration and come out on the other side as a GREAT PRESIDENT of distinction with peace, grace and love in his heart cannot be ignored.

Here’s a few lessons I’ve learned from the words of the Honorable Madiba:

“Any man or institution that tries to rob me of my dignity will lose.”

Lesson 1: No matter what others may try to tell you or convince you to do, valuing YOUR self worth and importance means more than any person’s influence in your life.

“There is no passion to be found playing small—in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

Lesson 2:  It is up to you to sit still, be quiet and listen to the dreams of your heart. Only you can bring them out into the world to create the life you see for yourself.

“Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.”

Lesson 3: Your passion for living life on your terms allows you to attract people and circumstances of all kinds, both good and bad. It is your responsibility to protect your passion and recognize the valuable teachers, family members, and friends that truly support it AND THEN just go for it!

“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.”

Lesson 4:  Your dreams are waiting to be realized. Your goals are waiting to be accomplished. Your desires may be too numerous to count, but without them you will remain stuck.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Lesson 5: Let your life be an example for your friends and family members to admire. SPEAK when you have something valuable to say. LISTEN when you’re not sure how to proceed. MOVE when you know you walk with a higher purpose in mind greater than yourself. Leave a LEGACY!
